Per the changes in statutory authority in SB 2027, all National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) participating communities are required to update their ordinance. If the community’s floodplain ordinance has been updated since October 1, 2020, then only an ordinance amendment is necessary. However, if the ordinance has not been updated since October 1, 2020, then a full ordinance update will be necessary. Community’s failing to update their ordinance by June 1, 2026, may be suspended from the NFIP.
