The following spatial and tabular data is available from the Department of Water Resources. There typically are two types of interfaces available to access the data.
- An interactive web map interface, which is a complex, interactive mapping application that may require visual map interaction such as panning, zooming, and map selections.
- A tabular interface with form attributes available to filter the data and potentially download the data in a csv format. The tables typically provide a link in each row to look at individual record information related to the data in that row.
General Water Resource Map Services are the place to find data that has been collected by the DWR over the last one hundred years or more, integrated with the latest spatial data available for North Dakota. There are water well records, scans of drillers' logs, dams, drains, water chemistry, water levels, etc. These tens of thousands of records have been combined with the latest geographic datasets including color aerial photography, topo maps, roads, public land survey, hydrography, and even live NEXRAD radar feeds.
Interactive Map InterfaceThe Department of Water Resources is responsible for the preservation and dissemination of official government survey plats (GLOs) and notes for the State of North Dakota. Many of these documents are as old, or older than the state itself, dating back to the late 1800s through the early 1900s. We now provide access to all of the GLO and benchmarks for the state of North Dakota through a specialized MapService.
Interactive Map InterfaceThe Department of Water Resources, as a member of North Dakota's GIS Technical Committee, has developed specialized map services that are geared towards the dissemination of large datasets, particularly LiDAR elevation data collects. This will make distribution to the general public quite easy and available 24/7. Data can be downloaded by selections of tiles using individual, box graphic, polygon graphic, or by GIS polygon features.
Interactive Map InterfaceThe Department of Water Resources has collected a tremendous amount of aerial imagery over its history. This specialized map service was developed to make that imagery available for download as needed as well as make it easy to find what imagery is available.

Interactive Map InterfaceTwo different types of precipitation data are collected by the Department of Water Resources related to precipitation.
The Atmospheric Resources Cooperative Observer Precipitation Network (ARBCON) is comprised of nearly 400 volunteer observers across the State of North Dakota. Observers record daily rainfall and hail occurrences at their locations for the months of April through September of each year. ARBCON reports date back to 1977 and are all available to be viewed or downloaded.
The PRESENS data loggers have also been adapted to collect rainfall from a tipping bucket rain gauge. There are over 70 automated sites across North Dakota and more are being added each year.
Ground and Surface Water information mapping application allows users to get information about water wells drilled in North Dakota.
Interactive Map Interface Tabular Data InterfaceWell Drillers Logs mapping application provides access to the Water Well Contractors drillers’ reports. Well drillers’ reports are required to be filed within 30 days after completion or abandonment of a well.
Interactive Map Interface Tabular Data InterfaceWater Permit information mapping application allows users to get information about permits throughout North Dakota.

Interactive Map Interface Tabular Data InterfaceSnow Water Equivalent information web mapping application displays and allows the calculation of Snow Water Equivalent on a given day at a point, within a polygon or a HUC boundary.
Interactive Map InterfaceWater Depot information throughout North Dakota.
Interactive Map InterfaceNorth Dakota Risk Assessment MapService (NDRAM) allows users to zoom in and visually display current flood risks, both approximate floodplains from BLE and effective regulatory floodplains from FEMA’s NFIP. This new tool also provides users with water surface elevations, flood depths, and the ability to download engineering model data and print customized maps making it useful for planning, mitigation, and disaster recovery actions.
Interactive Map InterfaceSurvey map results for North Dakota’s Airborne Electromagnetic Surveys (AEM).
Pusing Remote Sensors (PRESENS) delivers real-time environmental data from sensors located in remote locations to publicly accessible databases at the Department of Water Resources. The name PRESENS is an acronym for Pushing REmote SENSors but also is meant to convey a sense that the agency has a “presence” all across the state and is constantly collecting valuable water resource data needed for sound scientific decision-making on water development, planning, and appropriation.
